SBP Coaches Summit

Top-notch coaches are set to be the clinicians for the 2019 FIBA/SBP Coaches Summit on July 20 to 21 at the Meralco Fitness Center.

The Coaches’ Summit will be open not just for Filipino coaches but also in the ASEAN region with the objective of uplifting the knowledge, equip, empower and assist the coaches who will attend.

“FIBA is investing further in South East Asia to accelerate the development of basketball across the ASEAN territory. Basketball is already number one in the Philippines and we know we can increase the sport’s popularity across all of this region. This Summit gives these leading Coaches a higher level of technical development than is generally available to them,” said FIBA Singapore executive director David Crocker.

The main clinicians include Damian James Cotter, Dean Vickerman, and Jong Uichico.

Cotter is an Australian coach with 17 years of national coaching experience. He is currently the assistant coach of the Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G-League. He was formerly an assistant coach of the Long Island Nets in the NBA G-League and a former head coach of the Sydney Kings in the National Basketball League in Australia. He was also an assistant coach of the Australia Opals when they finished third in the 2014 World Championships and fifth in the 2016 Olympic Games.

Vickerman, meanwhile, is the current head coach of the Melbourne United in the NBL. He also had stints as assistant coach in the North Melbourne Giants, head coach in the Rockhampton Rockets, and assistant coach of the Sydney Panthers. She also guided Melbourne University to the Big V title.

Uichico is the head of the SBP Coaches Commission and the current head coach of the Bataan Risers in the MPBL. He is a nine-time PBA champion coach and a two-time PBA coach of the year. A former assistant coach of Gilas Pilipinas, Uichico led the national team to two Southeast Asian Games gold medals in his capacity as coach of that teams.

The Summit will be made possible through the partnership of FIBA and SBP Coaches Commission under the SBP Grassroots Program.
