PULP Summer Slam XX: Judgement Day

21:00 Sat 16 May 2020

More info

For the landmark 20th year of Southeast Asia’s longest-running Metal festival, PULP SUMMER SLAM features the biggest production that its thousands-strong crowd of devoted metalheads has ever seen—IRON MAIDEN will be making their first-ever visit to the Philippines to headline the SLAM with support from Death Angel, BABYMETAL, Dragonforce, and KING 810.

Happening on May 16, 2020 at the Mall of Asia Arena, PULP SUMMER SLAM XX: Judgement Day will be the ONLY Southeast Asia stop of IRON MAIDEN’s Legacy of the Beast World Tour, which has gained worldwide acclaim, registering countless sold-out stadium, arena, and festival shows across the world. The legendary heavy metal band has performed for close to two million fans since the tour opened last year.

“We’re delighted to finally come to The Philippines and present the Legacy Of The Beast Tour to all our fans there! We’re immensely proud of this show and we’ve had great reactions from the many fans who came to see us in Europe, North America, Mexico, and South America,” comments Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. “The production for the PULP SUMMER SLAM Festival is exactly the same as the other shows on this tour so far and is based on our mobile game The Legacy of the Beast which basically takes various incarnations of Eddie into many different Maiden Worlds. This inspired us to put together a stage show to take our fans through different Worlds and experiences set to appropriate songs,” he adds, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect during their headlining performance at the SLAM. Hailed by global rave reviews, the tour’s production and setlist is inspired by Maiden’s free to play mobile game of the same name which is available on iOS and Android platforms at www.ironmaiden.com/play.

“We feel we ended up with a very strong and well balanced set mixing songs we haven’t played in many years like ‘Flight Of Icarus,’ ‘Sign Of The Cross,’ and ‘The Clansman’ with songs we know the fans want to hear like ‘The Trooper,’ ‘2 Minutes To Midnight,’ ‘The Number Of The Beast,’ ‘Fear Of The Dark,’ ‘Run To The Hills,’ ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’ and others, reflecting the journey through the different themes of the show,” bassist and founding member Steve Harris adds, speaking about how the band came up with the tour’s monstrous setlist. “We’re excited to bring this show to Manila because our fans there have never seen these songs performed live before so we can’t wait to play them.”

Making the Festival even more massive than it already is are tremendous support acts completing the line up:

PULP SUMMER SLAM veterans and thrash metal icons Death Angel are excited to return to the Philippines, their Motherland, to complete the full circle years and years after they first made history as the first legendary international act to headline the SLAM in 2007. Also making their triumphant comeback are power metal leviathans Dragonforce, who have carved their own place in the history of the Festival with unforgettable performances at PSS 13 and PSS 17.

Sensational Japanese pop-metal band BABYMETAL have also got their Filipino fans excited for their very first performance in the country, which promises to be an otherworldly, cosmic experience as the duo takes us into the Metal Galaxy. Lastly, KING 810 from Flint, MI are set to devastate Manila as they unleash their call to arms—a notoriously aggressive brand of alternative metal.

Through the years, PULP SUMMER SLAM has cultivated a fierce and undying community of Filipino metalheads. Throughout two decades, it has evolved from being just a Festival into something bigger than all thousands of us combined—a tradition forged in fire and made steel by the people. SEE YOU AT THE SLAM on May 16, 2020 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
