Ilona Fiddy is a multi-disciplinary maker of anything, equal parts bookworm and dancehall queen, designer in two dimensions or three, tactile illustrator, cheeky copywriter and vocal referee for conceptual development. Most recent mediums of pursuit include interior/exterior murals, hand lettering, metal engraving, and most importantly tattooing. Born and raised in Scarborough (Toronto, Canada), a place of many voices, to immigrant parents from two very different worlds. Colonization and its effects present not just as abstract concepts, but concrete reflections of daily life, a mixed race existence acting as a mirror revealing pervasive and destructive notions in our society.
In her tattoo practice especially, she is protective of the indistinct borders between cultural appreciation and appropriation. She has explored themes of identity, isolation & strength in community, of othering and perpetual occupation of liminal spaces. Her work likes to consider what is sacred, to oneself and to another.
Come to Pineapple Lab anytime after 6 pm on February 21 - 23 to let Ilona write your story onto your skin...
