The 1925 World Fair in Paris revolutionised the way we live. The International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Technological Arts included artists, but also craftsmen, new technology, and materials. The impact is still felt today as modern design is in constant movement between aesthetic and use, or as we know it, plain form and function.
Tesa Celdran''s Chair Project explores her fascination with the Art Deco movement and seating furniture. The pieces are specifically second hand to study its creation and appropriation to our local interior spaces. Questions arise: how and when were they made, also how and why we seat ourselves today.
THE CHAIR PROJECT: A Study Collection of Seating Furniture by Tesa Celdran addresses these questions. If we believe that the form and function of design in the modern sense is to make our lives better, why were these discarded? And, in their renewed form, will these pieces of seating furniture make our lives even better?
You are invited to take a seat, take some time while you’re at it so that you can do what you do as you sit and find the answer for yourself.
The Exhibit Opening will be held This Saturday, Chinese New Year, on January 28, 2017 from 6 pm until 9 pm.
The artists will be present; drinks and refreshments will be served.
